Introduction:
I welcome you to The LDS
Second Coming of Christ Research Group. This group
started in the early 90's as a small email group, which expanded to include a
WEB site in 1996 to track the ideas of the group. The group then moved to
Egroups then yahoo groups where the group died with the end of Yahoo groups Dec
15 2020. I tried to restore the group on Gab.com: https://gab.com/groups/4790 so
come and join in. I assume I missed the
YouTube/Podcast age that we are now in but still giving it a try the old
way…. help expand this debate with others….
The key events, listed on this site, comprise a list of what will be the
greatest work that this world has seen, second only to the great atoning
sacrifice of Christ. These events will also lead to the greatest time of
mankind, one which mankind has only caught glimpses of, like the city of Enoch
and the people just after the visit of Christ to the Americas, the Millennium.
Many of the prophecies of the last days are not chronological and simply list a
group of events that must take place prior to the second coming, others list
events surrounding the Second Coming both before and after Christ's return .
Although key concepts and ideas are coming together much is left to do. I am asking for the assistance of LDS members who have a
firm interest in this project, to all who see this as an important event in the quest of life. A last days prepper focus is on 5CP

work needs to be done with a sincere reliance on the spirit, and an earnest seeking of truth, to avoid the
delusional Daybell syndrome,
spinning off a cult like study of future events.

Importance of the Work
From this
project I hope to install in every member of the church (even
members of other Christian religions) a
revived desire to earnestly study the second coming of Christ. I have
come to understand why individuals outside of the church have limited the
importance of this topic, based on a false understanding of what they call the
"Rapture", but I hope to remove some of the misunderstandings within
members of the church concerning the need to more fully study this important
event. Most of the lack of interest however I believe comes from a
misunderstanding of statements from modern prophets in the late 80’s and 90’s.

The Key Events
This section is a listing of key events leading up to the last days and through the second coming. This section will be a snapshot in time of this ongoing living event list.
The events are listed in chronological order. Many of the events may not be in their proper place and might need to be moved, thus the living nature of the list. As I have built this last days mosaic I have adjusted the pieces of the puzzle to try and arrive at a complete picture, that will include all prophecies, but have yet to arrive at a final solution.
I have attempted to keep my own personal thoughts out of this section, I tried to include only items pertinent to the event itself, however some events do not permit this approach and need further clarification thus my comments are included in some locations. For the most part my own views have been reserved for the section of this work dealing with that topic. As a study group resource I would also like to see others views included. I request from anyone that is willing to share their own interpretation of the full set of events to provide me with their own view so that they can also be included.
Many of the key events are simply listed with scriptural references, while others have other references and comments as required. The reason for the additional references or comments are to help properly identify what the event is or clarify where in the list they belong. Some events require no further clarification since they are well understood or are not debated.
With that in mind let's start the list.
We must first understand the foundation for the
work in the last days a period known as the Dispensation
of the Fullness of Times.
The Dispensation of the fullness of times

Future preparatory events: This is out of
place since I believe some of the polarization events (listed next) have
already begun. However not knowing where in the timeline these, clearly yet to
happen events, belong I have listed them first for discussion.

I
think both of these will cause issues for Christianity as a whole, with the
heavens being sealed (no scripture outside of the pared down Bible we now have
and no living prophets) this will put any of these type of events inside the
antichrist camp in the minds of most. One example I recently saw was the
inclusion of new scripture coming forth aligned with the Muslim Mahdi
(antichrist).

Now we start into the polarization phase events themselves. Each event should have a clear starting or finishing point that can be assigned. The event may not be quite so final in and of itself however, the event will produce a polarizing affect on individuals or groups. No longer will one be able to sit astride the fence, or go off and play in the forest while the train slowly lumbers on, as it was put in general conference. (Spiritual Revival, Glenn L. The Great and Marvelous Work: Timing and Significance
The
"Great and Marvelous Work" (GMW), a pivotal concept in the Book of
Mormon, refers to God’s divine plan to restore His gospel, gather Israel, and
prepare the world for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Understanding its
timing is complex, as it spans both the initial restoration of the gospel in
the early 19th century and a latter-day phase tied to significant
eschatological events. This section explores the GMW’s commencement,
particularly in light of 1 Nephi
When Does the GMW Begin?
In 1
Nephi 14:17, the Book of Mormon states that "the work of the Father
shall commence" when "the wrath of God is poured out upon the mother of
harlots," symbolizing the judgment of forces opposing God’s truth. That
event is further down in this list “Day of the Lord” yet I place the link to the details of the
GMW here to capture things associated with the GMW prior to that event. 1

However,
the GMW is not a single event but a multifaceted process. Some elements, such
as the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, mark its early beginnings, while
others, tied to the gathering of

the length of the battle of Armageddon is but a short time at the end of 2nd
3.5 years of Daniel , I’m not convinced that it won’t be close to the full 3.5

The latter half of Daniel’s 70th week (Daniel
9:27; 12:11), often called the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21), spans 3.5
years (1,260 days) and is marked by intense persecution, the ministry of the
Two Witnesses, and events culminating in the Battle of Armageddon. This period
precedes the Day of the Lord, which begins with cosmic signs (Revelation
The Great Tribulation: Key Events
During this 3.5-year period, several events unfold, setting the stage for Armageddon and the transition to the Day of the Lord:
- Ministry of the Two Witnesses (Revelation 11:3-13; D&C 77:15):
- Two prophets are
raised up to the Jewish nation in
- They are killed by the beast, lie dead for 3.5 days, and are resurrected and ascend to heaven amid an earthquake (Revelation 11:7-12). This event likely marks the end of the Great Tribulation, possibly coinciding with the cosmic signs (sixth seal) or the rapture (D&C 88:96).

- The land is rebuilt and becomes fruitful, like the Garden of Eden (Ezekiel 36:10-12, 29-30, 34-35).

- A coalition of satanic forces, called the “beast out of the sea” (Revelation 13:1; JST Revelation 13:1), the “great and abominable church,” or the “mother of abominations” (Revelation 17:1, 5), emerges to oppose God’s people. This includes worldly kingdoms and ideologies (Revelation 17:8-14; see Bruce R. McConkie, Doctrinal New Testament Commentary 3:520).
- Elder George Q. Morris suggested that 20th-century totalitarian regimes were part of this coalition, a trend that may continue in the last days.
- Siege of
- A coalition of nations

The Battle 16:16 ; 19:19 -21; Zechariah 14:2-3; Ezekiel 38-39)
Armageddon is the climactic battle at the end of
the Great Tribulation, not the entire 3.5-year period. It involves the
gathering of the world’s armies at Har-Magedon (Revelation
- Preparation:
The
- Conflict: Armies surround Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:2), but Christ intervenes, setting His foot on the Mount of Olives, splitting it to deliver the Jews (Zechariah 14:3-5; D&C 45:48). This event aligns with the Second Coming in glory (D&C 45:44-45; Revelation 19:11-21).
- Gog and Magog:
Ezekiel 38-39 describes a similar invasion by “Gog” from the land of
“Magog,” often equated with Armageddon. This attack targets a restored
Transition to the Day of the Lord
The Great Tribulation ends with cosmic signs signaling the Day of the Lord’s onset (Revelation 6:12-17; Matthew 24:29; D&C 45:42):
- Cosmic Signs (Sixth
Seal): The sun darkens, the moon turns to blood, stars fall, and
the earth reels to and fro (Revelation 6:12-17; Joel 2:31; D&C 88:87).
An earthquake accompanies these signs, possibly linked to the one at the
Two Witnesses’ resurrection (Revelation
- Rapture: Celestial saints (living and dead) are caught up to meet Christ (D&C 88:96; Matthew 24:31; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). The Two Witnesses’ ascension may occur simultaneously or shortly before, as their resurrection could signal the “morning of the first resurrection” for Celestial saints.
Notes on Armageddon and the Two Witnesses
- The 3.5-year ministry of the
Two Witnesses occurs during the Great Tribulation, not as the Armageddon
battle itself. Their role is to protect and testify to
- Armageddon’s battle is
likely a shorter event at the Tribulation’s end, with its preparation
(e.g.,

resurrection may tie to the rapture or first resurrection, as their
ascension (Revelation

Some preparatory events may be underway or fulfilled:
- The rise of satanic
coalitions and global unrest may reflect the “beast” system’s emergence,
though its full form is future.

The second coming…
What constitutes the second
coming of Christ?
There are many
contrasting views on this topic. This is not the time or place to debate the
various views like Pre-Millennialism, Post-Millennialism or Amillennialism,
etc. This will be a focus on the
Traditional Pre-Millennialism view of the second coming of Christ. When does Christ return? Mathew 24 warns us
of a time when many will claim to be Christ at His second coming. How do we identify
the true Christ and what event(s) constitute His return?

23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; abelieve it not.
24 For there shall arise afalse bChrists, and cfalse prophets, and shall shew great dsigns and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall edeceive the very felect.

LDS
Theology teaches that the second coming is not a single event but comprises
several things:

Christ will appear at Adam-ondi-Ahman (see Daniel 7:9–10, 13–14; D&C 116).

The Savior will appear to those in the New
Jerusalem in

Faithful Saints, both living and dead, will be
caught up to meet Christ at His coming (see D&C 88:96–98; 45:45; 76:63; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17).

The Savior will appear to the Jews in

The lord comes clothed in Red, after having cleansed the
world, just prior to His 1000 year reign (see D&C 133:48–51)
From my studies I have
come to the conclusion that the second coming should be viewed as the following
events (sing in heaven, First Fruits or the rapture, mount of olives or appear
to the Jews in Jerusalem) all one unified event (at the end of the 3.5
year two witness period that culminates in the final battle of Armageddon which will also be a very
key sign for this timeframe) which is then follow by the day of the Lord making
up the complete second coming which will start the millennial reign.

Servant Figures
This section explores key prophesied "servant
figures" who emerge in the last days as part of the Dispensation of the
Fullness of Times, often alongside the coming forth of additional sacred
writings. These individuals or roles fulfill specific preparatory missions
before major eschatological events, including the gathering of
Drawing from Isaiah,
Zechariah, Book of Mormon (e.g., 3 Nephi 21), and other scriptures, the primary
types discussed include:
- The Latter-day Servant
(associated with the mission of Gazelem) — focused on revealing hidden
truths, restoring knowledge, and aiding the overall latter-day work.
- The Marred Servant / Messiah
ben Joseph — characterized by suffering, being "marred" more
than any man, eventual healing/exaltation, judgment upon the Gentiles, and
a pivotal role in gathering the remnant of Israel and establishing Zion.
These figures are
presented as instruments in God's "Great and Marvelous Work," often
misunderstood or opposed (potentially viewed as threatening to established
Christianity). Their ministries are seen as non-chronological prophetic
elements that require discernment, humility, and Spirit-guided study to
recognize and avoid misinterpretation or deception in the last days.
